Girl Upside Down

I began writing poetry in 7th grade as an assignment in class.  I can remember my first poem, titled New Boots on Ice.  Here it goes:  Slips and slides// smoothly glides// then a crack// oh stop!

Okay you can stop laughing now!

I was only twelve years old back then, but I was writing and feeling something electric move through me putting a pen to paper and then reading my words out loud to myself!  And when my paternal grandmother died the following year, I decided to express my grief through writing my second poem.

Poetry and writing have been with me ever since; …although I find we are fickle lovers sometimes and at other times we are “BFF’s” on steroids.
