Oh how I love school supplies or office supplies!
Every September when other kids were sad to go back to school, I was excited. I really liked school; although the build up of anticipation to buy school supplies was the ultimate rush. When I was a kid we didn’t have the mega-stores for school supplies; it was a more like a trip to Woolworth’s, Hill’s or Mr. Wigg’s. Spiral notebooks, safety scissors, pencil boxes and the first generation mechanical pencils; I can still remember being in the stores ohhing and ahhing at everything.
To be honest, even now my favorite places tend to be libraries, bookstores and the ever so alluring office supply store. My beloved supplies now include a special pencil that writes in five colors and scissors that resemble a whimsical reindeer.
I guess that’s why I enjoy making expressive collage art, I get to play with office supplies and cut out pictures and quotes from magazines. I find sometimes I buy magazines just to tear out the pictures. Oh yea, I’ve made a few boo boos over the years by cutting up other people’s magazines without their expressed permission; I couldn’t help myself, really I couldn’t!
I don’t do that anymore though. I’ve learned the important thing is to “ask first, cut second.” Say it with me….”ask first, cut second.”
Enjoy my collage and I hope you’ll attach some of yours as well.
